Community Guidelines

Respectful & connected—how we show up

We’re building a community where science event organizers can connect, learn, and support one another. These guidelines help us create a space that feels welcoming, safe, and useful for everyone.

Be Respectful
Treat everyone with care and curiosity. We won’t always agree, but we can always choose kindness. If you unintentionally cause harm, listen, apologize, and adjust.

Be Clear & Constructive
Honest conversations help us all improve. Share feedback directly and kindly, and stay focused on ideas—not people.

Make Space for Everyone
Different regions, roles, cultures, and lived experiences shape our field. Invite a variety of voices into the conversation, especially those who may be quieter, newer, or joining from different contexts or time zones.

Value Different Ways of Doing Science Events
Festivals, pop-ups, rural gatherings, art collaborations—there’s no single right way. Let different perspectives strengthen your own work.

Lead with Generosity
Model the kind of community you want to be part of. Be open, accountable, and supportive. We are all here to learn.

What’s Not Okay
To keep this space safe and constructive, we do not allow:
*Harassment, discrimination, or derogatory language
*Personal attacks, insults, or hostile behavior
*Violent threats or doxxing
*Unwelcome sexual behavior or physical contact
*Purposeful disruption of meetings or events
*Encouraging others to break these guidelines

These guidelines have been adapted with modifications from Mozilla’s original Community Participation Guidelines
